broken glovebox

Yesterday I went to open the glovebox and I heard some plastic break inside the locking mechanism. Now I can't figure out how to open it to even attempt to repair it. To make things worse I messed around with the key and now I can't remember which way was unlocked :)
My repair manual only has instructions to remove the whole glovebox (of which step two is to open the glovebox...d'oh!)

Does anyone have any tricks to get into it?
Can someone confirm which position is locked and unlocked (for some reason I think turning the key clockwise unlocks it)

Even without a way to get in, can someone send me a picture of the latching mechanism so I can see what I'm dealing with as I poke around in there.
Thanks
Jeremy
