Rings?

so, i was out drivin the audi around today, and came from a stop sign and held it wide in first gear, got to 5000 or so and then let off. man, you should have seen the blue smoke behind me. it was kinda amazing how much smoke came out just from decelerating.

so, ive heard the 2.0's are notorious for fried rings and burning mass amounts of oil. well, mine is addicted to starting fluid, and burns a quart of oil every 75 to 100 miles. and ive kinda ruled out the turbo seals, because it only smokes when you are under full boost, or full deceleration. when you are just cruisin at 55, theres no detectable smoke.

Probably rings, starting fluid is a HUGE no no on these!

dude, i know about the starting fluid no no. i was kinda surprised there was a can left on the property. but i only use a tiny bit. my rabbit will NOT TURN OVER when you give it ether. it absolutely stops the starter dead in its tracks. this engine just fires right up with it. doesnt rev way up or anything. besides, i plan on trying to locate a 2.4 head and metal gasket when i rebuild this engine.

Let me know if you find any. I need to find 2 heads to rebuild both engines I have. The 2.0 head is hard enough to find. But yeah, I think a rebuild is in store. Tom's newly rebuilt engine is using 1 quart/ 1000 miles, and mine, with total seal rings, is using about .5 quart/ 1000 miles. There is some controversy for some reason about using them, and I don't really know why, but I don't think it would hurt looking into them.

I know that total seal are not good for high boost pressures though, so if thats your plan with the engine, i'd stay away from them.

Man if it's that bad I'd just put a grease fitting where the dip stick tube goes in the block and pump it full of wheel bearing grease or thicker.  Maby one in the valve cover too ;D

nah, i just take all the old used oil we keep when we change oil in everything. it goes in the engine of the audi, and the fuel tank of the rabbit. so its not like the audi is using clean fresh oil, it just gets whatever is slippery pretty much. and its not like the new duramax engines are very sooty, so the oil stays pretty clean.
