there are way too many catalysts and mufflers on that exhaust system. cut it off in front of the cat and call it good. should gain you a bunch of power.

I wonder if that cat converter is plugged up? Anyway to tell without pulling it apart?

cut it off and shine a flash light through it. then weld a piece of pipe in place where it used to be. lol

That cat is stock to Eco diesels sold in the US. Remove the whole thing and replace it with Bosal 783-309. You should be able to find that number online for cheap.

Is this it? Does it replace the cat section only, keeping the 2 mufflers?

I haven't done anything with the cat yet. Has anyone gutted the inside of cat in place and then sealing it up? Much less work then putting in a new down pipe, which requires new parts, special muffler clamp tool and welding- none of which I have. This should clear out any blockage/restriction in the cat. It'd be interesting to see how much performance increase afterwards.

Yeah my Dad pulled the guts out of his eurovan cat like that, wacked a hole in the side. Welding it up didn't work so good though, he's not an arc or wirefeed kinda guy (does oxyacetalean) so it didn't seal up and there's some exhaust noise up front.

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

yea, I pulled one off of my old truck and poked an iron bar through the holes, then the guts pretty much fell out. then I put it back on. The best part is, it passed emmissions 3 times.  :D

We have always just driven a piece of pipe through the innards (sic) of the cat.

I have set of old motorcross handlebars that even let me work around some some corners.

The first "muffler" in the rest of your system is a resonator.  It does not restrict the exhaust flow.

If your state inspection will allow it, I put 2.25" tube from the downpipe to a high-flow muffler in the stock muffler location.  That dropped EGT's significantly.

catastrophic converters are a waste of time. i dont own a vehicle with one. thats the first mod that every one of my rigs get. my toyota came alive when i de-catted it.
