81 Rabbit door
« on: June 28, 2009, 10:33:28 am »
Does anybody know of or recomend a place to get a pass. door {2 door car} for a 81 Rabbit.  Aftermarket, or good used not dented or rusted out and have any idea of what shipping rates on a complete or gutted door would be from lets say Michigan to Maryland.  I'm considering Parts Place if they have one, havent called them yet and I've never had any large items like a door shipped by truck and have no idea what it costs.

Is this the flapping door that goes from the cage into the enclosure or the one on the outside with the lock to take the rabbit out? Either way I'd have thought it would be easier to make something out of wood and or chicken wire.

You can probably ship one on greyhound for around $50-60 depending on destination. All rusty at the local junkyards I take it.

I called one today and they said yeah there should be one up on the hill, that's the line they always tell you at that place but I haven't went over there yet.  He said $100 and that's fine with me if it's actualy there and isn't rusted all up which I would expect it is by now.  I haven't found any place online that has aftermarket doors for these things but they do have fenders for like $55 and $100 for hoods at different places, I couldn't believe those prices but no doors anywhere that I can see .  Parts Place says they have good used ones, complete or stripped starting at $75 but I have to find out what their shipping method and price for that is first.  If it wasn't for that I'd just say send me the best one and be done with it :(d

What color?
I've got a friend in CT with a basement full of doors: about all colors. Nice thing about that is no paintwork.

I've got access to a few here in Tennessee. Not much, but perhaps I can help.

2-door?
4-Door?
Color?

I'd hate to see you lose interest in your diesel!

'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

It's a passenger side door for a 2 door car, It's Lago Blue but the color doesn't matter, I'll paint it anyway.  I'm still checking around here localy for a while yet but would you have a good one by chance and how would I get it here in Md.

Called Parts Place but they don't have any Rabbit doors believe it or not, their catalogue says they have lots.

This is a 2 door, passenger side door, manual windows if that matters, this one doesn't have the opening wing vents but that doesn't matter either.  I'm still checking here for a little while, one guy said he thought he had one and sent his guy out to see if it was a 2 door but when I called back a little later I got a woman who acted like I shouldn't even be calling there.  Everything seems like it's screwed up everywhere nowdays.
