Hello all you helpfuls,
Recently I picked up a ratty old but running 80 Dasher Wagon with the 90 cubic inch diesel. When I got it the vacuum pump for the brakes was not working. But the car came with a lot of extra parts, including two other pumps, so i swapped one out. It worked great for about two weeks, then that one went out as well. That leaves the last one, but there's a small hitch: not all these pumps are made the same.
In the Haynes manual that came with the car, there's a picture of a vacuum pump showing a coiled oil line between the pump and the top of the oil filter adapter plate. But this car has no such oil line. The adapter plate has no opening for that oil line. And the first two pumps had no inlet for that oil line. The last pump does have the fitting, and amongst the extra parts I even found one of those coiled lines. But that still leaves me with no way to connect it to the filter plate.
Does Myke_W or anyone have an extra filter plate with the oil line opening?
These vacuum pumps each have two larger hose connections, one for the vacuum going to the brake booster, the other seems to be a return oil line (?) going back to the block near the filter adapter. In the case of the first two pumps without the smaller coiled oil feed line, how does the pump receive oil so as to send it back through the larger return line? And why does the pump need oil circulation anyway?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ron
