Truckdoza is finished!
« on: June 16, 2009, 06:41:13 pm »
Yep, it's finally done.  Been in the shop for 4 months, and spent... well, more than I should have.

In a nutshell:

Powdercoated all suspension
Polyurethane bushings all around
Air bags in the back
Air horn
Compressor
Towing receiver
55W halogen reverse lights
Rewire entire dashboard
Rewire entire engine bay
3" stainless exhaust and Downpipe with V band clamp
New intercooler plumbing
Custom radiator with dual low profile fans
Delete expansion tank
Move fuel filter into fender
Move horn into fender
Cruise Control & Tach
New gauges in interior
New stereo mount
Air pressure gauges
Switches to control compressor, bags, and airhorn
MK2 height adjustable seats
Push fog lights back
polish alternator, valve cover, intercooler plumbing, injection pump lda
Powdercoated any other engine tin we could get off

Okay now the pics:

I love that last shot, what a beautiful thing.  The family is back together ;)  Yeah the Jetta is a TDI, I named him "Rudy" after our mutual idol - Rudolph Diesel!

wow looks like you've done a nice job.

so is it turnkey finished or just all-back-together?

looks like you have a 1.6 but running low mounted turbo? also, let us know how your IC setup goes.

Wow, that looks extremely nice.  Great work!

What is this powdercoated thing bolted to the transmission?

I'm driving the sucker now.  Motor is 95% complete, just need to tweak the fueling and address a small oil seep coming from somewhere in there.

The "thing" bolted to the transmission is the intercooler.  It's kind of like the old school callaway intercooler, mounted beneath, with a scoop built into the duckbill spoiler that pushes air into it.  It's not crazy hardcore, but it made quite a difference, especially on the highway.  Lowered EGT, fuel mileage went up, overall a good thing.

Nice work :o
'82 Rabbit, I put on a euro vnt-15, 2.25" DP, 2.5" exhaust, the result.....it whistled.

I removed the turbo, made a toilet bowl 2.5" DP, the result....it was deafening. Now it has a homemade muffler up front and a thrush in the rear, the result.....less loud.

Yeah I love it when a plan comes together.

Radiator is this:  http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/51960/10002/-1

Warning though - unless you're a proficient aluminum TIG welder, would not recommend.  WE probably have 2 days of messing with it to get it to fit, mounted, fans, radiator hoses to fit, etc.

The horns are LOUD, supposed to be 153 DB, but I don't think they're quite that loud, but still loud enough to be heard from 1/2 mile away!

I did about half the work, all the interior work, some of the electrical, most of the design, and some of the fabrication, and all the grunt work (polishing, sanding, cleaning, running around, ordering crap).  The heavy fabrication work, exhaust, and electrical stuff my brother in law helped me out with.  He owns a shop called Inline Performance (www.inlineperformance.net) in upstate NY.  Very reasonable and amazing quality of work.

Tell me about it, just getting from the ford freeway to I75 made me want to run over a lot of cars when I worked for a car parts carrier out of windsor.
