« on: March 08, 2009, 04:58:51 pm »
I want to remove and turn around the inlet manifold elbow to fit or at least 'mock up' the I/C location and piping... it wont budge; Ive used a rubber hammer and a wooden mallet but its stuck fast on there; dont want to get too brutal and crack it; any ideas??
I did a search on this but turned up nothing?? Am I a fool?? What am I missing???

You may be missing one bolt! I've done that on trans. before. If not spray some PB blaster etc. between man. and head let it soak overnight. If you've been hitting it with a mallet sounds like lets one more bolt-nut holding it.

the gasket goo sealer is holding it on there, i'd persist with the rubber mallet idea if possible.

to save you a little time, can i offer this advice - the elbow when turned around 180degrees from stock location will likely put the oil feed line for you're turbo right in the way of any adjoining pipework you want to add. this is how it was on mine, you see :-). I even tried swapping it for the elbow from a 1.6, which is not offset... still no luck.

my solution ended up looking like this:

'77 Golf LS 4 door twincharger project
'91 Golf Cabrio 1.9TD
'94 Golf TD - AAZ, 2.5" Mandrel DP and exhaust, Merc T3 1.6TD boost pin, FMIC, Koni suspension, VR6 Brakes, VR6 Seats, VR6 sway-bars - sadly missed
'07 SKODA Octavia 1.9 TDI PD - Remapped ECU

Sucess;I got it off after repeated blows with a second rubber hammer it gave in; I know see what you mean gldgti; oil feed line to the turbo os slap bang in the middle of where The additional pipework to the I/C would go...
... can I 'gently' bend this oil line out of the way of am I asking for trouble doing this???
I rekon if I unbolt it (oil line to turbo) it could easily be bent a bit to suit the 'new set up'...
This is possibly old hat to a lot of folk here, but you live a you learn...
