My IP Rebuild
« on: March 09, 2009, 04:49:01 am »
I was given this IP that came from a Citroen Xsara 1.9td that had a fire in the engine bay.
It had sat on a shelf for a few years until i got it, this is what i found when i opened it;

Safe to say it wasnt in good nick.
The head was ruined.
A lot of rusty bits.
Would you guys have even bothered refurbing it?

I thought i may as well, for practise at least as its a spare, and set about replacing any bits i felt werent in good enough condition.
I had a bosch pump from a peugeot 406 1.9dt that i used for bits, it had a cracked casing.

I used the 406 head, springs and carriers for springs.
Same size head etc so should be fine?

While rebuilding it i used petroleum jelly to keep the springs etc in place while i reinserted the head, will this have any adverse effects?

Before sealing it carried out the governor mod, so il hopefully have it on the car in the next week to see if my rebuild is successful.

Thanks for reading, without this forum i wouldnt have been able to carry out any of this!

Anton

Thats looking into the pump after the head has been removed....

It was nasty, actual lumps of rust!
It cleaned up well however, the casing is fine so i assume it is ok to reuse it after id thoroughly disassembled it, cleaned it and reassembled it with less worn bits...
