MLS hg's or sumfin sumfin?

haha, ok so i went down to the local part store to see if they could get them, and whatnot and how much they were. Now what they told me is that they can get three kinds, one hole, two hole and three hole. Which do i require if i was to be putting this on a 1.6 n/a? Also isn't there some head work that has to be done in order for this modification to work? or am i thinking of someone actually using a 1.9 head?  :?  i cant remember.. lol

They told me around $50 is that reasonable price?

If your  motor is newer then 86 (hydraulic) then you just measure your piston protrusion and go from there

You need to measure your piston protrusion like Tyler said.
I DID NOT a year or two ago and just assumed the ass-hat who put that head gasket in there before me knew what they were doing so i just got the same (3 hole) HG time and time again until i finally measured, realized - hey i need a 1 hole not a 3          THAT  + new rings and my engine actually starts now whereas it did not before.


never ever trust the PO (previous owner) with technical stuff like that unless you KNOW they know what they're talking about.

you should be able to get the head gasket for about $25.  you'll need to find someone who can buy directly from the distributor though...

Are the corresponding "1.9" gasket part numbers in this thread correct for the MLS?

I ordered an "AAZ gasket" from prothe and received a fiber gasket.

it's a shame that prothe uses fiber gaskets for the 1.9 AAZ engine.  i mean, if the block is perfectly flat, and the head is perfectly flat, and the engine is just running stock everything, then the motor should do just fine, but who the hell has all of the above?  :roll:

i think the only appealing thing about the fiber gasket, is the price.  BUT... there is a workaround here... TADA!!!!    you can all thank me later... ciao!

I bought and used a 1.9 fiber from prothe and it didnt last long.I was hitting 20psi though.I got mls now

I think it is important.  The pre-chambers are not compression seals and so without running the ring around them, there is a much greater risk of compression leaking around the pre-chambers and getting to the coolant channels.  I'll let others try the TDI gaskets...  AAZ gaskets are economical enough for me.

meh, might be worth a trial run for someone with head studs.

one could get donations for the trial to pay for the HG (head removal) as it would be a gamble. Non-profit sort of operation of course. And it would have to be nicely documented
