Cabby tach in Caddy

Could a gas Cabby tach(only) be used in a Caddy dash unit. Or does it have to be a diesel tach no matter what vehicle it came from?

you can convert it to work on a diesel, and some how make it fit into the caddy isntrument cluster, how ever one of the easiest tachs to convert is the 83-83 american gti tach, and the whole gti cluster fits directly into your caddy.  when i did my tach conversion, i used the gti speedo with a converted gti tach, and then used the membrane and leds from the diesel cluster and made a hybrid cluster, this way you get a 125mph speedo and a tachometer with all the proper glow plug lights you may need to run one wire tho.
