I do notice a difference  between early and late Vanagons. The '82 diesel Vanagon has a different trans mounting brace on the body? What I mean is, that the cross brace where the trans mount bolts to is the same as an air cooled Vanagon. The later 1.9 water cooled vans cross brace is the same all the way up to '91.

Getting back to the Scirocco. That red one looks bad ass! I love the Seat air box.
By the way, theres no such thing as a MK1 or MK2 Scirocco's. They are considered S1 for early '75-'81 and S2 for late '82-'89.

I do have to agree with Andrew on the fact that Vanagons and the crowds of Vanagon owners are way cooler than the "just want to look cooler than the other guy" VW owners.

I guess thats what growing up is like. Ya just don't care what others think about your ride. Its what "you" like.

All IDI-engined VAG automobiles should be included. In the headline it says turbodiesel, but this is no problem either.
N/A guys feel free to post your cars also, since they are, after all, future turbodiesels anyway 

So you guys need not argua about which platform is which anymore...

i dunno where i'd place a corrado, it is very much a cut down passat, but very much a mk2, when you are comparing wiring, interior bits, door handles and such, the corrado shares way more with a passat.  but i believe the passats subframe is a bit different?  isn't the rear end of the corrado basically all passat tho?

I have no idea what a vanagon is. We didn't get them in the UK afaik.

Well a Corrado with 4 lug wheel fitment utilises mk2 Golf 100mm inner CV driveshafts, wishbones, 256mm or 280mm brakes, hubs and also the mk2 Golf rear axle.
But a Corrado with the 5 lug wheels (VR6 engine) utilises the wider track mk3 Golf GTI / VR6 driveshafts, wishbones, 280mm brakes and hubs and a mk3 Golf rear axle (different bushes from mk2 axle).
The Passat subframe is different from the mk2 and mk3 Golfs and will not fit those vehicles. It is wider where it attaches to the chassis legs.
There are so many subtle similarities and differences between all the vehicles it is impossible to state one model is more like one than the other imo. The great thing about this situation is it allows an amazing amount of interchangeability between the models and components to create a hybrid of your choice.

A vanagon is a T2 caravelle or transporter or, IIRC, more affectionately called a Brick in the UK.



When I took this picture, it still had an IDI engine in it...

And now, back on track. The superclean Mk 2 on the left is an AAZ powered car. My truck is a Mk 1 with a Mk 3 (AAZ) diesel. Does that make it a Mk 2

Cheers for that libbydiesel. Over here those vans were called T25s but for some reason this is frowned upon and most call them T3s. I actually have one in my garden I use as a shed! It was a 1.6 NA IDI diesel, and believed to be slower than a week in the jail. 

The one I pictured was originally a 1.6 non-turbo and indeed was slower than any other production vehicle of the last 40 years.  The upside (and the reason I originally bought it) was that it contained all of the mounting and cooling system components to install any of the later turbo-diesel engines up through the AHU/1z/AFN 1.9TDIs.  After I pulled the original lump I installed a 1.6TD and with intercooler and VNT, it was considerably faster than a 2.1 WBX and actually on par or better than the popular 2.2 Subaru.  Since then I have installed a 1.9TDI AHU and it's performance is considerably better than a 2.2 Subaru vanagon along with getting much better fuel economy.  If your garden shed is complete, you might consider resurrecting it with the installation of a real power plant or if the body is bad, use the mounting/cooling bits to do so in another van.  If it's missing those bits, then it is probably put to best use as a garden shed.

Holly crap ^^^^^^^^^^ that is the sickest exuast i've ever seen.  I hope its ok if i do this to my car.  As soon as i get it put back together im going to talk to my exuast guy and see how much this would cost.  I love the sound of rain flaps.

diesels have no cam overlap..

the rain cap wont tinkle at idle like on a gasser with a cam..
