If it is replaced or the newer one it is a TTY stretch type and only supposed to be used 1 time. Older one I forget, but I was thinking alot of guys here do 242 loctite and run it in with an impact.
The TTY bolt I believe was something like 140 FT LBs plus a 1/4 turn.

crankshaft sprocket to crankshaft (lubricated)

6-sided bolt with washer 137
head head bolt with washer 111
12 sided bolt with collar 44 + 1/4 turn

Those are foot pounds

Bentley for 85-92:
Crankshaft sprocket to crankshaft (lubricated)
6 sided bolt with washer                    180 Nm  (137 ft. lb.)
Hex head bolt with washer                 150 Nm  (111 ft. lb.)
12 sided bolt with collar (no washer     90 Nm   (66 ft. lb.) + 1/2 turn (180 deg.)

Edit: Obviously I type slower than Tyler :)

Okay thanks y'all. I used to just do it some locktite and the impact gun, but since the whole 1.9 crank fiasco, i figure it's better to do it right. VW cranks are not industrucible !

I wish Bentley Publishers knew what they were doing. I was also using my 85-92 Bentley

Just for anyone who cares: we locktite'd [?] the bolt and pulley inset, torqued it to 66 ft/lbs, really didn't seem to want more than that,  and  then just tried to give it 1/4-1/2 turn. It went about 1/3 rd of a turn. Should be fine.

I was wondering about that.  I was using data from section 3 page 44. section 8 Engine technical data.  Mine seems to have been printed about 3/92.
