Serpentine Tensioner
« on: December 09, 2008, 11:18:26 am »
I had the serpentine tensioner pulley go the other day. I had just replaced this thing probably not more than a year and a half ago or so, luckily I had the old one as it was the spring end that went the last time. So I'm looking for another one as the one on there I'm sure is still the original, and it's days surely have to be numbered. I've noticed some which appear to be cheaper one's on e-bay as they look similar to the one I replaced. Then I've come across some which claim to have a bigger bearing. Any thought's appreciated.
Thanks.

Well you kinda have us at a disadvantage here.

Our IDI engines don't have serps first of all so can we assume you are referring to a TDI engine? If so you have this in the wrong section.

Then how about a link to the E Bay listing so we can see what you are talking about.

Wrong section?? 1994 1.9TD = IDI no??
Here's the links to these tensioners but maybe your right the TDI's might have more experience with this set up.

This is a listing for the complete set - pulley and tension spring - http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:VRI&item=270315257970

This is for just the pulley - http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=380012084581

This one claims to have a larger bearing - http://www.boraparts.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=61_200_204_207_108&products_id=220

Larger bearing should last longer - no??

Nope my bad.. I wasn't thinking of the AAZ for some reason  :?
Go with the Bora one. Good stuff.

And yes the larger bearing would last longer, that and your getting genuine German parts getting them from Aaron.

Just a thought... putting your location in your profile is a good idea, since different regions got different diesels at different times.  In particular, we Canucks got the AAZ early.
