Merc 300TD turbochargers any use?
« on: November 13, 2008, 01:29:35 pm »
I haven't found many posts about Mercedes 300 turbos being run in 1.6 or 1.9s. Anybody run one? How would one do for a performance build? I think hillfolk'4 and rabbitgtd may have run some type of merc? They seen to be pretty common on ebay for relatively cheap.

I was planning on using one.

The design is dated, you could find a better turbo (better than the .42AR) Mine currently has 421K on it, and it's due for new wheels/centersection if I do endup using it.

PS>and that'd just plain 300D. 300DT would just be a diesel wagon (T stands for touring class)

The KKK K26 used on the 300 Turbodiesel Merc can support about 220 hp on a diesel engine, including our VW ones. There was one 1.9TD Jetta as fitted, and spool-up wasn't a problem.

But don't expect it to be a bolt-on turbo for your VW just because it's a KKK

i'm pretty happy with my k26/k24 turbo...I got it from a audi 5000 for $55 then I got a k24 exhaust side and zukgod1's buddy machine the housing out to fit the k26 wheel...it's not as laggy as I was expecting...pretty sweet for a junkyard setup IMHO

The turbo was not always a 3k

MANY are Garrett/Air Research T3's (as is mine)

I know it will require a flange to be welded onto the exhaust manifold. I have never seen one in person but the turbine housing seems much less restrictive than the k24, which is what I am aiming for.

an adapter

t3 5bolt to 3 inch Vband is what I'm using. Stainless is a must.

the t3's are not a straight t3 flange, but a smaller; boxier type. Will also require an adapter
