Guys,
My 1.9TD conversion is almost at an end but i just couldnt leave that crank pully alone after hearing of all the problems, so i decided to remove the sprocket and see what i made of it !
My engine is a 1Y but shares all the same parts as an AAZ (crank, pistons, head etc....) so i assumed that the crank assey. was the same....but my crank sprocket has no woodruff key, its simply a cast crank sprocket with the key cast into it, no individual key; is this the same problematic design

The main bolt was very tight and there was no movement in the sprocket until i removed it (92,000 miles on engine). My plan was to remove the sprocket and replace the key with a new original and the bolt with the TDi version, and use high strength loctite while tightening the hell out of it !
There doesnt seem to ever have been movement because there is no worn surface or marks on the inside of the sprocket or the stub of the crank....but what annoyed me was the fact that there was at least 0.4 / 0.6 mm of play in the sprocket on the crank stub while trying to rotate through 360 degrees.
I think i will need to shim the inside of the sprocket until there is no play at all, even if it requires hitting on with a mallet.
Leaving that play in the assembly can only cause a potential problem down the road.
I'm gonna go to the dealer on monday and buy a new TDi bolt, as well as pricing a new 1Y sprocket. Any info and input from you guys would be much appreciated.
