That's one style, but the more common one, at least in my JYs, is just a standard thermostatic sandwich plate.  The oil cooler looks the same.

They stay open slightly to keep air pocket purged out of the cooler.

for anybody that may find this searching later...I just wanted to update this and say that the Volvo sandwich adapter in this link IS the right Volvo sandwich adapter...I went tho the wrecking yard today and picked up the oil cooler lines and sandwich adapter for $13....you just need to remove the "sandwich adapter" part from that other long funky piece.

anyway I thought this info would be useful since I was not sure about it myself...and pasted up two other turbo Volvos before I checked to see if it was right or not :oops:
