Heyy !!
I recently installed a newly rebuilt 1.6 NA in my car and it gives or crazy thick black smoke which clears out on cruising.
The engine is with 1.9TD injectors which are 150bar IIRC, the 1.6NA is suppose to have 130 bar injectors.... can this be the reason for excessive smoke??
All comments are welcome!
Thanks.
it doesn't clear when you turn the full load screw a bit down?
the higher the pop pressure the more retarded the timing when the injector actually pops ......
in other words , with higher pop presures on the injectors , the injection pump needs to be advanced .........
which also means you need the proper tools to measure the timing dymanicly .
retarded timing can cause lots of smoke .
I havn't played with the full load screw, infact i dont know where that is. I dont really know my way around the IP so i never touch it.
Burnt_servo....
So what do u suggest.. will i be better of with advanced timings or just installing the 130bar injectors which this motor is suppose to have?
Thanks.
if you don't know how to mess with the IP its best to fit the 130Bar injectors.
but you would get much more satisfaction from learning how to mess with the IP
try the proper injectors to see if that solves your problem. It may be completely unrelated

snap on along with a few other companies make a really nice module that clamps onto the injection line , allowing you to use a timing light to measure the injection timing ...... set your timing to 12 degree's before top dead centre and your off to the races .
other than that , it might be best to go back to the stock pop presures ..... unless you can afford to fix a poped head gasket ( and related damage )from over advancing the timing .
Thanks for the replies..
I guess i'll install the proper injectors first and see it the problem goes away.
