1.6td rebuild

Hey Guys.
Hope some of you more knowledgeable guys can help wth this one.
Got a 1.6TD engine from a MK2 golf van , which i want to transplant into a MK 1 VW caddy. There does not seem to be much compression between Number 2 and 3 cylinders , so suspect a possible blown headgasket ? :( .
The question is , when i take the head off to have a look  if it is not too serious , i was going to lift the whole lump out and have it reconditioned.
I was thinking Head cracktested and skimmed , bores honed , or even bored with new rings, and the crank journals looked at. I was wanting to end up with a good solid engine for possible future tweaking on the IP and the turbo but not going too crazy.
What would you fellas reccomend or have i covered about everything with the above. Just thought it was an ideal time to get it all sorted together.
Thanks in advance for any help and ideas.
Cheers Kirk

Hi Kirk, seems about right though you,ll need new pistons if you bore the block, make sure you use good quality seals [my flywheel seal leaks a bit!!]
I rebuilt my 1.6 td earlier this year,so post again if you have anymore questions/problems.
Good luck Barry.

thanks Barry. I thought i had got most of it covered , but never worked on a VW diesel before. I am going to take it to a reputable reconditioner here in Sheffield , so hopefully will be ok.
I don,t suppose you know where i can get torque settings , strip down proceedure , build up etc from . Something along the lines of a Haynes manual for it i think, don,t know if they are available
Cheers Kirk :D

Kirk, justkampers sell a small manual [www.justkampers.co.uk ]. google..club 80-90../the brick-yard t3 tech. The bentley manual is good but pricey! [mine came with the van].i had my block rebored here in Spain [my Spanish is very poor ] so when the machine shop lost parts it was a trial!!. Ive got most if not all the torque settings, so feel free to contact me.
Good luck Barry.
