« on: April 23, 2008, 05:32:05 pm »
So I need a new IP for my 94 1.9L TD, I found one at a wrecker, so I got my wife to pick it up.  This is what I came home to...

What I took off looks like this.

The question is what is the first one and can I use it or is it going back??

Yup, that be an AAZ pump and should bolt on.

One thing to sort out:  it has a vacuum actuated fast idle usually found on cars with A/C.... your current one may do fast idle with a linkage attached to the cold start.

The other thing is that it's not clear from the picture if there's a boost port.  There's an ECO version of the pump found on some early Canadian Passats that has no boost enrichment circuit... another thing to look for.

Ok so it should be fine even though my car has no A/C the boost line will just attach to the barb on the upper right?

Yup....although the fast idle you are used to when you pull the cold start knob out won't be there on those cold Manitoba mornings.  If that becomes an issue you can rig up a solenoid valve and switch on the dash.... BTDT... but most people don't worry about it.

W.r.t. the boost connection: does your new pump have a barb fitting on the top ?

Yeah I bought one of those by mistake... I'm told all of the LDA parts are missing, not just the top diaphragm.

It's now my "spare in case I sell the car and don't want to part with my heavily modded and freshly rebuilt" pump.

Why oh why did Bosch make a pump without an LDA that VW could cheap out and OEM... Dr. Robert... my hero... what were you thinking ??!!!

I know... sell it to some unsuspecting slob on eBay UK for 600 bucks... yeah... that's the ticket.

Not a pump... but there must be some fierce inflation in jolly ole England:

Yep!

So this one is no good for me? Or is it still usable? I'm a little confused.
By the way it doesn't have I think Bently called it a high rev cut out.  On the front where a wire hooks up.  On the new one there's just a cover plate.

If you can swap the top cover from your old pump onto it, it should be ok, but make sure there aren't pins inside the body that aren't going to get in the way of the LDA working. Compare it to your old pump. The "high rev cutout" as you are calling it, is no such thing. It is on there only for emissions, so it doesn't matter if the other one doesn't have it.

Yup... that's the rub... if it's an ECO pump there are no "guts" in the LDA under the cover... so you're pump won't be able to enrich the fuel mixture under boost.

Car will still work fine, just won't develop as much power as you're used to.
