Diesel pump shop just turned unfriendly... they said that after replacing the boost pin they need to recalibrate the pump (i thought that recalibration was for the old inline pumps!) as well as a lot of other stuff that they did not explain.... totalling $ 120! they said that they need the pump number for the rover 220 and are suddenly refusing to sell me the rover pin if i replace it myself!  they almost sounded sour by saying  that if they knew what i was going to do they would not have sold me the 1.6 td pin in the first place!   w*f???

That's a load of BS! I wouldn't go back to them for anything. Don't you have any junk yards you can get one from?

well:
1) it is madness to haphazardly replace boost pin without watching results on a propper pump tester bench as to how the pump will react

2) i have to replace the feeler pin since now there will be increased travel

3) they regret seling me the 1.6 td pin because of the damage i might do to the engine without propper testing

4) boost pins are not interchangeable unless done by someone trained

5) 1.6 pin is of a smaller diamiter than my AAZ pin so excessive play will be present... when i suggested the rover they said that pins are not interchangeable between brans unless the rover has a similar bosch pump...

6) for the boost pin to be removed the pump must be out esp. for a boost pin  with an aggressive profile otherwise it gets stuck on the feeler pin

That about summs it up... also highlights the fact that usually i never explain mods to most shops i intend to do... if i need anything i usually just go with any relevat part numbers and just get the item like the 1.6 boost pin... shame on me for explaining exactly what i was going to do
since usualy i just walk into a parts shop with part number / car year and any other relevant details and say "One like this please" golden words indeed

p.s. prior to fitting the aaz i took the pump to them for a service and watched them in 45 min strip it down, replace all washers and plastic bits and had a and on providing them with shaft bearings i bought from ebay they replaced them... recalibrated pump and was ready... all they charged was $90 for a complete stripdown so they were on my good books ... at least prior to the above post

You know I doubt they're trying to screw you or anything. I've heard similar comments about modding the pump from shops and I think that while they are good, and fast at what they do, they are just mechanics who follow the book and dont think outside the box. They do everything to the stock specs and they would definately not want to deviate from that and possibly be held accountable if your engine blows up.
I was trying to find a pump seal kit locally a couple weeks ago and one of the shops was hesitant to sell me the kit cause he just had a customer try to do a reseal himself and the pump is now in the shop with a munched head. I can understand, being an engineer, that due dilligence is everything but you need to be able to think outside the box too.

Can anyone help regarding pump part numbers (for 1.6 td or rover 220 d) so i can buy the boost pin locally or does anyone have any suitable boost pins running around that i can purchase? (paypal)

An option is to find a machine shop to turn an offset cone on your pin. Lots of pics on here to show them what you need.

Just drill a slightly offset hole in some round stock, tap it,  and use the threaded diaphragm side to attach it. If you can't do a taper with the lathe bit, you could always use a file by hand with it in the lathe.

Or you could just grind one side and leave the other stock. Grinding seems a lot easier than turning a custom one on a lathe.
