Author Topic: injectors return fuel lines. Size? (Read 8169 times)

I am about to purchase a length of the thin low pressure hose that connects the injectors to the fuel return line. My engine is a AAZ. Could you tell me what length I am going to need and what is the actual ID of this hose.

I want to say it's 2.5mm. I bought some pre-cut line from here. They used to have a 4 cyl VW kit, but the 5 would just leave you an extra hose it also came with a new cap for the last injector. I also saw you can buy the line here by the foot.

I went to my local industrial supply place and got some 1/8" ID Polyurethane hose. Its clear so you can see bubbles, its quite tought and abrasion resistant (hard to cut!), it should be very biodiesel resistant, and it was $0.65/ft. I dunno exactly how much you need but its cheap so I bought 10ft

I just bought some weedeater/chainsaw fuel line and it is AMAZING. I know that the 1/8th inch would probably work, but I got the next size down that he had which might have been 1/16 inch. Why? Because you can heat, bend, pull, and pry this in any way possible and it doesn't really hurt it. I think he called it viton fuel line. I just cut it to length and pushed really hard and it stretched about double and went down all the way to the injector body. No leaks and since it is a clear to yellow green color you can see the air bubbles clear out. It is very tough and can be bought at about any lawnmower or chainsaw shop. It is a pain, but cheaper than buying one, but the block off stub can be made with this or your stock fuel line and a regular 4.5mm BB. Just shove it in the end of your fuel line about an 1/8th inch and then stick it on your injector. Done. I have had 3 vw diesels all done like this and no leaks yet:D. Hope this helps you.

Thanks Guys for your tips.
I guess the main rule is to pick a diesel fuel compatible hose, which some transparent nylon lines are not.

Just a quick question here. I have put in new injectors and the little return lines, I seem to be leaking fuel from these little lines do I need put an electrical tie around these to help seal them up or can anyone offer suggestions.

Sometimes the lines get little cracks in the ends, or are swelled up some and don't seal if you re-use them. Are they new lines or old ones?

VW makes a cute little hose clamp specifically for the purpose of placing on these return lines so they don't come off or leak. Let me know and I'll get the part number for you.

Hi, the part number is N90045501. They list for about $1.75 each, but I think they're worth it. The "official" VW description form them is "clip", but rest assured, they are little hose clamps less than 1 cm in diameter with a little tightening screw. I'm sure they would be the same part number in Canada.
