I'm building up an IP and I wonder, does a 10-11mm plunger work with a stock 1.6 camplate? I know a 1.9 camplate has much more lift and I read somewere on here that the 1.6 doesn't like it :? I need a new camplate anyways so I just want the best one. I don't have a turbo yet so I need to be able to run this at or slightly above stock fueling. I have a NA block so I'm not looking for huge HP gains, 15-25 more HP at the most after I get a turbo and EGT, I just hate it when I push the gas and nothing happens. I have an LDA and the pump I'm building is one I had layin' around. Anyways, I would like to know what combinations don't work so I can narrow my options down.
So it comes down to:
What camplate, 1.6 or 1.9.
What size plunger,9mm, 10mm or 11mm. (I know, 11mm's over kill :roll: )
And in the future, what turbo and injectors. Suggestions are welcome.

P.S. I'll post some pics of the pump as I go along.

Yes the camplate will work.I have a 10mm plunger and head from a peugoet.I measured the cam plate from that and it was the same as the one from my NA vw pump.

You mean the 1.9 or 1.6 camplate? Will either one work with the 10mm plunger? Do you think it's worth getting a 10mm plunger instead of a 9mm one? thanks

Here's a few pics,
The plunger was stuck in the head so I freed it :oops: I'm toying with the idea of replacing it with a 10mm head and plunger. My plan is that I can get a sharper injection therefore creating less heat with more power and less fuel. Then someday I'll ad a turbo, put a valve in the LDA pressure hose so I'll have a eco/turbo diesel.

I have no idea what the adjustment on this piece is for. I'll fiddle with this after it's on the car.

The rollers and camplate are rusty and pitted so I'll need to get new ones.

I've had this since I got the car and never though to put it one 'till now, I kept it out of the rain, unlike the pump.

If anyone thinks I'm stupid for trying this, speak up. I'm hoping I don't waste any money on this project. The deal is that I don't trust the one running my bunny wabbit now, I think the input shaft bushings aren't gonna hold up this time either. :x

I only know of the 1.6 cam plate.Im not sure about the 1.9.They should be similar since they are both idi.

a 1.9 camplate will work great with the 10mm pump head!
a friend of mine is building me a 12mm pump w/ 1.9 I.D.I. cam plate for my 1.6TD that should burn holes through my pistons real good :twisted: the 1.9 I.D.I camplate gives 1mm more lift then the 1.6 camplate does!

Mine is bottoming out with a 10mm head and 1.9 cam plate(older) :evil:

On an older AAZ, the cam plate is .03mm too small in diameter for the plunger foot it appears.

wow, my brain is smokin', I'm tryin' to figure out how all this works but man is it ever complicated.

Is this an LDA part number?

Does this give it more or less throttle when the weights spread from centrifical force?

I still haven't figured out how all the linkage works and I'm not quittin' 'till I do. (this is gonna take forever) :roll:

rabbitman, did you find that pump pictorial in the FAQ thread? that might be of help to you?
and hows the weather up there? were suposed to get 20below zero on wednesday here in milwaukee wisconsin!

wow, kinda cold there. We're having nice warm weather now, 32F, windy (it's always windy or cold here), sunny and slightly cloudy and 16 inches of snow were it didn't blow away. About 2 weeks ago we had a low of -54F :shock: and a lot of -20 and -40. Last winter I was in wisconsin when it hit -20F, it feels lots colder down there 'cause it's more humid I've heard.

yeah, I looked at that but it wasn't very descriptive on how the governor works. Oh well, I'll keep studying it. I'll post anything real breakthroughish. See my problem is I wanna "calibrate" it my own way, the pump on the car right now was done by a IP rebuild company, but it is so unimpressive compared to the one I first had that I think I can make a better one. Yeah, my first pump I would sometimes take apart just to see how it worked. I never pulled it all the way apart, just the head and camplate and top cover, but nothing I did ever caused a problem with it. Then the ULSD killed it :x diesel puddles every were I went. :roll:

That thing with the weights is the governor. When the rpms get high enough, centrifugal force pushes out the weights and the whole assembly slides on the shaft. This acts on a spring which slides a collar which reduces fuel (acting as a governor)

Ok, I'm a little confused. Here's what I think I know so far, there is a 1.9IDI and a 1.9TDI? And the camplates are different for the 1.6 and 1.9IDI and TDI? The 1.9IDI can be used on a 1.6, but the 1.9TDI camplate can not be used on either.

Prothe, on your website you have an upgraded 1.6 camplate but you say it's actually just a 1.9 camplate. Is this IDI or TDI?

Anyways, I need a new camplate 'cause mine is pitted. What I want is the upgraded camplate and a 10mm plunger, but, is the 10mm plunger a 1.6IDI, 1.9IDI or TDI or are they the same? Sorry for all the stupid Q's, I'm just a little confused is all :cry: Thank a lot

My project kinda hit a standstill but I think I'm starting up again, at least for a little while. Finding parts means looking on the internet 'cause there ain't very many vw diesels in the junkyards up here.
What is the recommended method for getting the IP bushings out? I hit 'em w/ a brass punch and they didn't budge, so I rigged a puller with a bolt, washers and a socket but I can't move them at all :x I know there was a thread about reaming the new ones but I didn't see how to remove 'em. Thanks a lot

EDIT: Never mind I got 'em out.
