AAZ tuning and interchangable
« on: January 16, 2008, 04:31:35 am »
Hi guys.
Im completly new to Diesels as my background comes from mainly classic american cars and Jap turbo cars.
I've got an '85 caddy that im rebuilding and just bought a mk3 golf with a 1.9 TD AAZ engine that will be fitted to the caddy.
Ive tuned the hell out of petrol engines before but figured this would be a bit different so thought i should get some expert advice.

It will have a full service before going in and the crank pully feels fine.
I will be fitting a cold air induction kit, performance exhaust system (prob 3") and fitting an intercooler.

How can i get some more power.
Can i increase my boost?

if so hows it done and can it be made easily adjustable from in the cabin. (using a manual boost controller)

What presure can these stock turbos run to with out running out of puff or damaging things?

How do i increase the fuel in line with the boost?

are there any parts (ie turbos, pumps etc) i can get cheap off of other cars etc as im just after some cheap mods, nothing overboard...Not yet anyway

thanks for any help and great site,

Steve

#1 thing to remember, BUY AN EGT GAUGE and put it BEFORE the turbo. #2, the more air, the cooler it will run. Max boost depends on the turbo, and a stock turbo probably won't make too much for the engine to handle, but over rev a turbo and it won't last long. Go to the FAQ and find the "make your 1.6TD a faster car" thread as all of it applies to the 1.9, though you will want a 1.6 boost pin.
