cold start
« on: October 22, 2007, 07:36:22 am »
So is my AAZ doing ok to start at 15 F with only 2 working glowplugs? It took a bit of cranking, but finally started. I screwed up my back, and haven't been able to replace the bad ones yet. Just glad it started. I have heard some people add a small amount of acetone to the fuel. Does this help starting at all or is it supposed to just help burning fuel in general?

I don't think acetone would help with starting...

You might try cycling the glow plugs 2-3 times before attempting to crank.

I'm sure you already know not to use ether or starting fluid on a VW diesel, but maybe you could squirt a bit of WD-40 into the intake to help things along.
