well obviously the mercedes injectors flow a heck of a lot more fuel, so you will realize a huge power increase, but there will be a lot of black smoke coming out of your tailpipe.  nozzles designed for a 3 litre engine put on a 1.6... speaks for itself

you're running a turbo right?  i'd say increase the boost and add an intercooler.  a pyrometer would be essential if you don't want to cook your motor too.  larger downpipe is a good idea for turbo spool and lower egts.

Yeah right  You might hear difference in sound, nothing more.

The amount of fuel injected is dependent on the injection pump, NOT the injectors.

The injector bodies between MB and VW/Audi are exactly the same! The only differences are the nozzle used and the stamp on the injector body. The nozzles will not work correctly anyways, Mercedes uses a precombustion chamber that uses a ball to complete atomization while the VW uses an open swirl chamber. The injection spray will not be right and would likely cause damage.

FWIW, using VW nozzles on a Mercedes eats glowplugs.

probably from trying to squeeze all that fuel into the cylinder through the smaller nozzle... IMO the initial injection would be on time, but the end of the injection would begin to be retarded, probably enough to burn stuff, gp's and even pistons?

maybe i'm wrong in my theory... would be nice to see a side by side comparison of mercedes injectors on a diesel test bench...

by the same token, shouldn't MB injector nozzles in a VW motor advance the beginning of injection timing, I'd guess more fuel would come out earlier and in a shorter window.

oops, I was thinking of my setup, which is using lower injector break pressures, essentially a MB TD nozzle set at MB break specs (130 bar IIRC)

A bigger nozzle at stock break pressure will shorten the injection period as Andrew states, but will come on, "on time" not earlier like a lower break pressure injector would.

What should I notice when running 617 nozzles? I have those in my Passat, didnīt notice anything compared to stock "RA/SB" ones   If you want to put MB nozzles, use om603 turbos. Those have better pre-injeciton.

There is always difference between old worn and new injector. Anyone really tested new vw injector and new mb injector? I want facts, not theory.

Om 603 turbo nozzlez won't fit, different size fittings on the injector line. I have a 91 merz with 603.960 engine and the injectors are way smaller. I am looking for someone to do pop testing on my merz nozzles because I don't have the correct injector line fitting. I do have the one for the older VW/audi/GM/Merz etc fittings. Cheers Dan

The injectors won't exchange engines, but the nozzles will work in the VW injectors.
