Hi bud

Remember me? I was making wide steelies and stuck a post on E38 forum.

Anyway I never knew you were a soot head, my cad's got a GTD, 2.5" downpipe, single silencer system, big FMIC behind grille.

You originally asked about tachos - I can take a stock VW petrol tacho and convert it to run from the diesel alternator if that's of any interest to you?

No figures - stock boost and fuel. Engine's a bit tired to start throwing boost at it, I need my caddy daily.

£50 from local pig farmer

Under bonnet - not show tidy but then it's a £50 caddy built on a budget to be used and neglected

Intercooler, brand new and very cheap from fleabay, dunno what it's from, possibly an 06 Focus TDCI

My caddy finished,

cool as *** geez :D

like the green touches :D

just to get this straight, more fuel = higher EGT... so smoke = a hot run?

if i up the boost and have slighlty less smoke this will also reduce egt?

how do you best think i shud set the car up with 23psi of boost?

if the engine is tired, more boost = more blowby... gotta watch the oil consumption.

Ok after seeing that video you've convinced me, straight through system....  8)
One thing though, there's lots of guys around the town in your typical done up civics with jap cans on the back that are really lairy and annoying, does this happen if you put a straight through system on a TD golf?

its a totally different noise with a straight pipe.  the turbocharger acts as a muffling device, so its really not as bad as a straight pipe on a normally aspirated engine.  those fart cans resonate so much...  so annoying sometimes.

I ran mine for a while with just the 2.5 downpipe and it genuinely isn't excessively noisy.

The turbo kills a lot of noise because it breaks the pulses up into tiny little chunks.

I've got a single box on the system now and it's quiet, not stock quiet but quiet enough.
