2.25" down pipe for gtd?
« on: August 16, 2007, 12:33:57 pm »
Hi, I have just been reading the FAQ's for mods to this engine and one of the first mods seems to be a 2.25" down pipe. Are  there any available or is this a custom exhaust fabrication jobbie? :?
Thanks Joel

The most noticeable gains will be lower EGT because of less backpressure and faster spooling. As far as exhaust go, straightpipe is how it goes. But you can use a resonator to make it quieter.

that stock downpipe setup is so horrible
i think a long time ago,i measured the inside of the "toilet bowl" section, and its like 1.75 inches,,heck even a  2 inch custom d/p is an improvement
if you go custom,cut off the orig 4 bolt flange,get 2 180 degree u bends+weld em up
use the orig. flange to weld to
Throttle cables ftw

I have a question perhaps one of the experts on here
   can answer...

Regarding the 2-1/2" straight through pipe, with no
muffler, are there any legal/safety/emissions issues,
associated with this  modification, in Canada (Ontario?

In other words, is it perfectly legal to have no muffler?

Yes there are legal, emission issues. Safety? I dont see how you could consider this having anything to do with safety, it's a down pipe.

Now for the legal part, if your concerned about it I would sugest YOU look into it. Call your local whoever enforcment dept that would handle it and ask.
Maybe someone from Canada that has has experiance in this area will chime in.

So you guys are running no mufflers?
Does anyone have any clips to watch so i can hear what it sounds like?
I have just found the stainless magnex system i have lying about and it only measures 2" ID. I thought it was bigger than that. It is a 3 box system aswell, so is it worth me cutting out the boxes or just starting from scratch and using larger bore piping?

Thanks Joel

Well, first of all, I'm not simply referring to the "downpipe"
but, rather to the full length, straight through, exhaust pipe,
   sans muffler.

I believe several people, on this forum, which originates
in CANADA, have already done this modification.

However, I am unsure whether they did so for STREET or TRACK,
and whether they know the ramifications of this mod for a street
use daily driver as I recently bought a parts car with this
   modification already performed.

Finally, while it's certainly true, I CAN look into this myself, always
assuming I can get hold of an actual person at the DMV, it's also
true that those people seeking parts numbers, or other miscellaneous
information, could always ask at the dealership.

Surely, fora, such as this, exist as a source of fairly quick, reliable
information, for interested parties, from those who have both the
knowledge and the prior experience which, with respect to your
response, does not appear to be the case.

Indeed, as I pointed out, my concern is within CANADA, and, more
specifically, in the Province of Ontario, where many of the participants
   on this forum reside.

Since you are from Utah, Yew Ess Ay, where the laws governing
such modifications are unlikely to be identical to those in Ontario,
CANADA, I'm somewhat puzzled as to why you would take the
trouble to respond to a question to which you, clearly do not have
   the answer.

However, I do thank you for your...er...interest.
