K14 (1.9 TD) turbo on a 1.6 TD motor?
« on: February 10, 2005, 01:02:00 am »
I know guys have put the bigger K24 turbo from the 1.6 on a 1.9 for some nice power gains, but has anyone tried it the other way around? I just acquired a spare K14 and my theory is that the small turbo on the small motor would spool up faster than the K24 that came stock while still being capable of 12-15 PSI. It might be a better match for the 1.6 exhaust flow and improve acceleration and pedal response, then again i could be wrong. anyone have any thoughts/critique/experience with this one?

my 1.6 already has the k14 turbo, and this is from the factory! :D  its a SB code engine from an A2 GTD which I gather you guys didn't get over there (I'm in the UK) the GTD was suposed to be the 'performance' model of the diesels being intercooled from the factory too, and producing about 80hp and 114lbft
if VW saw fit to use the k14 on their 'performance' model then I guess it may well be worth doing :D

EDIT: I forgot to say - I can't actually tell you if its any good as I havn't had it running yet, as I'm in the middle of fitting it to my rabbit and its not quite finished, also having not driven any other turbo diesels I don't really have anything to compare it too.
