I have a 1.5l 068.2 in a sailboat and would like to relocate the alternator from the intake & exhaust side of the engine, to the fuel side. I researched the vag diagrams and forums here and it seemed like the one I purchased would fit, but low and behold, it doesnt. The new alternator bracket crashes into the IP guard/bracket, near the bolt hole shown in the last photo.
Is reconciling this as straightforward as swapping a guard bracket from a different engine? Presumably a 1.6?

Here you can see the mounting bolts through the pump housing, the upper left hole was vacant when I took it apart. Seem strange to anyone else? Also, the conflicting guard location can be seen to the left as the area rubbed free of paint:
