SW Ontario Drag Racing / GTG Aug. 20/21

Hey everyone, not to steal Bryson's thunder re the Aug. 28th GTG, I just wanted to pass along that the TDI guys are having another GTG in the London-area on Saturday, August 21st.

This is being hosted at the Putnam Training Centre, visible right off the 401 and Putnam Road exit (#208) on the south side.  Another very healthy turnout is expected, and the location has facilities to accommodate a lot of people and is also family friendly:

Quote
The campground has a park and pool. Since they are lending us the land and BBQ, I would just ask that we pay them $3 a head for anyone wishing to use the park facilities (ie Pool and Kids Park) This is their regular per person day fee which is pretty reasonable. This fee only applies if you plan on using the Pool or Playground inside the Campground.

Maps to the location and more details about the GTG are here.

In addition to the GTG on the 21st, a bunch of people are heading down to Toronto Motorsport Park (Cayuga) on Friday evening. There is drag racing between 7 - 11 p.m., cost is $20 to race, donno how much to spectate. Several TDIs and gasser VWs are going to be running, and I really hope Gerry brings his Monster TDI Pick-Up cuz I think we will see the North American TDI 1/4 mile record fall easily.  It would be cool to have a TD (or NA Diesel :) ) contingent as well.

More details about the drag racing evening can be found in the following:

i'd love to go to the GTG and the drag sounds like tons of fun...

been very busy working on the house and havent even had time to do a brake job on the rabbit, let alone get the exhaust fabbed up... or any kind of tuning.

hoping i can make it out to the GTG at least... but that weekend is actually the predetermined 'last push' to finish the house before we move in................

dang priorities eh.

I'll be at a family reunion next weekend and racing at Sears Point the next. Sorry, I can't make either event... :(

Have fun, though! :D

We met up at a mall parking lot in Burlington at 6 p.m. on Friday evening, with some light drizzle falling.  Unfortunately, shortly after everyone was assembled together (a group of about 10 cars) a phone call came in from someone who called the track and found out that it was closed due to the weather... :(  So, needless to say, the track day didn't happen.

BUT -- Not to be let down from that, we went on a really nice drive up in Escarpment Country, through some rural back roads with lots of tight curves, hairpin turns and rolling elevation changes.  We tore up the roads at, ummm... "highly enjoyable speeds" ...

Saturday's GTG was a great time as well.  Big turn out, probably 30 cars in total.  Great lunch cooked in a BBQ that would fit a whole cow!!
