Ok I finally have my 85 golf running for the first time and it run great except there is unbearable low decibal noise at idle. Should I put a resonator on the exhaust? Would changing the pump timing change anything?
Low decibel or low pitch?
I presume low pitch, because low volume (decibel) usually isn't a problem.
Where does the sound seem to originate?
Im not exactly sure, as its only an issue while sitting in the car....
Pipes not rubbing on the frame somewhere are they? This may only happen when you sit in the car so weigh it down some and get under it to see and listen. Feel any vibration in the floor? How about the hangers? Are they solid or is it rubber mounted to isolate the engine vibration from the body?
Just some of the things I dealt with last weekend when my exhaust shifted after going over some incredible rough spots on our well maintained streets. Winky Wink.
Jeez I run straight pipe - from turbo to bumper. Never really a bother. Only noticeable under heavy throttle application.
Problem solved with a sawz-all. The carppy u-joint muffler clamps were hitting part of the frame. After 5 minutes they certainly were not anymore
Maybe not exactly the pipes hitting the frame but real close now wasn't it. I got mine tweaked again this weekend. Now I get a vibe when I back up on the hill I live on. Maybe time to go get a bend adjusted on it so it fits with a little more slack.
Those are all new as well. or at least less than a year old.
