Tensioner woes....
« on: March 12, 2013, 08:11:47 pm »
As I sit by the side of the road waiting for my ride, sigh....
My tensioner for the sep belt appears to have bitten the dust...

The actual arm looks ok, but the tensioner itself broke free of the arm and Is sort of hangin ther which cased the belt to come off..... Still have the belt....

This easy to fix by the side of the road? Can I get just the pulley itself?

Thanks,

Paul

Super easy to change, super common part, common across almost all Mk3 VWs and probably the Mk4s too.  One bolt to change.  Pretty much any part store will have it.

All you need is a crescent wrench to pull the springloaded tensioner arm back and a socket wrench to undo the tensioner pulley bolt.  There is a plastic cap covering the bolt on the pulley - the new pulley should come with one.  It just snaps in to place.
