getting my rab-jetta(rabbit engine in jetta) to live and run. Had it running w/too much smoke so advanced IP as much as I could, but it still wanted to die when cold start pushed in, and only when warm would idle. Wanted to try some more advance. Decided to try advancing the IP sprocket one tooth, did so, but no success now at even getting smoke to come out. I rotated the sprocket one tooth toward the cam sprocket. Now I wonder if that was the correct direction. I returned the IP to a standard position-mark on IP lined up w/notch on mounting frame-no luck, then retarded it some, then slowly advanced till it was almost at the point it had been at before, still no firing or smoke. Need to charge battery now, but welcome any suggestions. Should the sprocket have been rotated away from the cam sprocket? How much timing variation ie teeth can be accounted for within the normal advancing distance available by rotating the IP? Thanks.
