Ceramic coated vs. stainless

I am wondering what more people would be interested in, ceramic coated mild steel DP's or stainless DP's. Please feel free to add your opinions to the pros and cons of both. The ceramic coated versions will be cheaper than the stainless versions.

ceramic. will the ceramic hold up to corrosion as well as stainless though? that is my only concern.

The ceramic coat should hold up to corrosion very well as long as it is not being sandblasted from road debris. The thing about downpipes is that they are in the engine bay and shouldn't see abuse except from heat which the ceramic coat is more than capable of taking. Also our downpipes are made from aluminized steel, which doesn't really rust.

In that case an exhaust wrap could easily be used for peace of mind. Inexpensive too.
I voted for ceramic coating by the way.

I chose stainless
A good stainless DP will last at least 8-10 years minimum.
Ceramic coating is OK but it just delays the inevitable.
In the long run stainless would very likely be cheaper.

I would like stainless.
Now, how about ceramic coated stainless?

Still hoping more people would cast out some opinions, I can start offering ceramic coated versions now as in tomorrow for and additional $40USD. The vendors section sure doesn't get much traffic.

i like stainless. ceramic coatings are only good untill the first rock chip. then 2 years later theres a big rust hole. all it takes is 1 little rock chip to run the whole shebang.

Just so everyone knows, the downpipes are made form alumized steel, I had a piece of it sitting out back for the better part of 2 years in our really rainy climate. And there isn't really any rust on it. The only thing that is likely gonna rust on these downpipes would be the welds and the flanges. However with the ceramic coating I can't imagine one rusting out in uder 10-15 years.

I would be more interested on the coating of the inside of the manifolds as well as downpipes. Wouldnt this keep exhaust temperature where its needed? As for the outside, couldn't a protector of some sort be put to protect the ceramic coat?

agreed. stainless pipe, with multiple ceramic coatings on the inside only. If you can prevent heat from making it into the pipe walls, no need for an exterior coating.
I chose option 'C'. Both.

Might need to consider the vibration factor too... nearly any stainless alloy will be more brittle than mild steel and therefore more prone to crack in a diesel application, especially if there are too few supports.
