Since I've had the new head on my GTD it puffs out some whitish blue smoke when it comes on boost but only briefly after each cold start (engine is warm when I use the turbo). After this inital puff it seems to clear up and just produce some black smoke if i'm at WOT from 70-100 mph. It does use oil and there is definitley a leak from the left rear of the engine at the gasket. I use 5w40 synthetic and the turbo had no play at all when I had it off and span freely. Can valve stem seals do this? I know the head had been sitting around for a while built up, but all the components were brand new.
Thanks
Will
sometimes a fresh head on an old block will make them use oil.
hi guys
sorry to bring this up again but I can give you a few more symptoms of this problem.
Basically i've noticed:
when cold small amount of blue smoke at idle. if revved there is a puff of blueish grey smoke
car is driven mainly off boost while warming up, but first bit of proper acceleration I get more smoke than normal.
if driving down a hill in gear without foot on accelerator, then at end of hill slight bit of accelerator I get a little puff of blue smoke
some oil in boost pipes, even in the pipe connected to air filter box. some oil weeps at the connections.
no bad blowby, oil cap can be left on unscrewed without being blown off.
some oil in venting pipe coming from valve cover ufo thing.
Thats all I can think of at the moment. I'm really trying to sort this thing out because it is going through approx 1 ltr per 1000 miles which is a fair amount. the new head has now done 12k miles.
thanks
