A flex pipe is definitely recommended. The reason why there's an extra foot at the end of the downpipe is to give a local muffler shop more flexibility while connecting the rest of the exhaust system after downpipe installation.. and they usually can provide adapters + flex pipes that fits both ends of the exhaust (whatever size it is). Some people go 2.5" straight through. I have 3" after the downpipe. Passenger can sell adapters + flex pipes separately in various sizes upon request.

I think the 1.9 TD market should definitely be worth pursuing. I'd seriously consider one but it would have to be stainless.
There is a shop in Kitchener that carries stainless flex joints so I've got that part covered.

you should make a turbo back exhaust.
when most people try to cover an aftermarket application, they provide everything for that praticular item. for instance, if you go to flyinmiata.com they sell a complete exhaust, among other things.
sence the downpipe is probably the hardest part of the whole exhaust, why not just finish the job and offer it as a complete exhaust system? the rest of the system shouldnt be muc more work, and throw a flowmaster on the back or something.

the flip side of that is, since the rest of the exhaust system is easier to make or have done at a shop, many people would rather just buy the downpipe alone. PP isn't in the exhaust business, they are in the TD performance business (as far as i know), so they provide only the part of the system that is specific to TD cars... the rest of the exhaust system is standard and easily available elsewhere.
now how about stainless!!?

this would be perfect for my future setup, I'm thinking of running 2.5 " or larger and I HATE  those damn C clamps on the MK2 downpipes.
The site is down right now, so if anyone had one or two PM me and I would grab two...

This is mine. It was on a 1.6TD at first, but I've just finished a killer 2 liter AAZ build and the pipe fit right on (same T3 turbo). It's the best money you can spend. I backed mine up with a 2.5" custom system and Magnaflow muffler.

Ive been looking at a fresh re-build 1.6L TD with a broken ass downpipe sitting on my engine stand for a month or more now and it's killing me!
How Long did you wait to get yours from moment of payment?
What would you say is the rough estimate of gains while using this raw dope ass pipe  over the stock 1" or whatever size it is version
Would you recomend it?
Total price in Canadian dollers spent?

DEFINITELY worth the money, though I do have a stock downpipe and bracket if you need one. Delivery was about 3 weeks but worth the wait. However, the builder is presently in the hospital, so you may have to wait a while. Mine was a bit more than most as it is ceramichromed.
The turbo spools quicker and runs way cooler. Figures are hard to give as I went from a stock downpipe and NA exhaust to this downpipe with a 2.5" exhaust. The difference felt like twice the horsepower, but that may have been the choking effect of the stock exhaust.

HI,
Just been reading the thread about the large bore downpipes for the IDI engine, 2 questions
1 I have a MK2 1.6 GTD with a T2 Turbo fitted as standard, would this downpipe fit my engine.
2 I am in the Royal Air Force currently serving at Basrah Air Station in sunny Iraq, would you be able to send a pipe via the British Forces Postal Service ? its normal post to the UK, just sent out to me in Iraq.
And before any one asks yes we do get rocketed on a regular basis.... averiging 4-7 in a 24 hour period.....
