Is the water pump driven by the same belt that drives the alternator? I was out driving just a few minutes ago and my serpentine belt shredded itself apart. I had to leave the car in a grocery store parking lot and get my brother to give me a ride home. I can't get a replacement belt til tomorrow but I really don't want to leave the car sitting there overnight. If the water pump is driven by its own belt then I suppose I could drive the car home, discharging the battery the whole way.
apparently from one pic i saw, the water pump looked like it was driven off of the same belt as the power steering pump.
your best bet is to just take a peek under the hood. i think the serp belt is only for a/c and alternator.
It depends on what style it is, some are and some aren't. A quick look under the hood will tell you though
On my 1.6TD with ac and no PS, there are two v belts, one goes from crank to compressor and water pump, the other goes from compressor to alternator.
My bro has a 1.6NA, with only one belt for alternator, water pump, and crank.
My other bro's jetta 1.6NA with AC and PS has 3 V belts, but I can't remember the config.
