I've got an 87 golf with 'armstrong' steering. Also have a '90 jetta with power steering that is currently counting its roseary beads :?
Anyone know if I can swap out the power unit for the standard unit from the Golf?
Cheers,
Andy
Yes, but make sure you get the matching splined shaft that comes with the rack.
Unless the manual steering was broken, I wouldn't bother. I don't find a lot of difference between the manual and power steering on my 2 Jetta's. If I ever have any trouble with the power steering on the GLI it will be changed over to manual immediately. I wish I had done it when I did my engine swap instead of going out and buying the pulleys to make the power steering work with my new engine. In my opinion it's just something extra to break and extra junk in the way when I'm working on the car.
