Just got done replacing the subframe in my 91 Jetta. Everything went together well, and all front end parts are tight.
When turning the wheel it sounds like something rubbing or squeaking, and it definitely sounds like rubber against metal or rubber against rubber. Anyone experienced this, or any ideas?
Thanks.
depending on what the squeak is, i would say maybe brakes?
sway bar?
hard cornering or normal?
Nope, its not the sway bar, and it doesn't matter cornering or not. When the wheel is turning at all, the p/s has a weird rubbery noise coming out of it.
I traced the noise down to the tie rod, inner. When holding the inner rod and moving the wheel I can feel something consistent with the noise. Im thinking it may be something underneath the boot on the rack end, but I was hoping someone else might be able to shed some more light before I go digging into it.
my car seems to be developing the same sort of noise, but it is intermittant and only when hard cornering (90% of the time )
If you can, grease the ball joints and see if it goes away. If you don't have grease nipples you can use one of the needle fittings for your grease gun & stick it through the boot. It's a cheap fix if it works and if it doesn't it wont hurt anything. Cheers Dan
