Had a coolant hose rupture and in the process of replacing it I found it easier to access the clamps by unbolting the oil dipstick tube from the base of the injector pump and removing the tube by pulling it forward to clear the injector lines coming out of the pump and then pulling it upwards. Upon reinstalling the tube there is an oil leak where the tube enters the oil sump. I admit that I had to force the tube a bit and I probably boogered the grommet where it enters the sump. And, I can't seem to get the tube to fully seat in the sump. I've ordered new grommets. The car is an 86 Jetta. Anyone have any suggestions as to the removal of the old and installation of the new grommets? My Bentley shows two parts to the grommet/washer and the supplier says there are two parts. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Paul
This probably should be in the "Trouble Shooting" section. But what the heck.
Yup, its a washer and O ring. You probably sheared a piece of the O ring off when you put the tube back in. I usually put the washer and O ring on the tube befor I stuff it in the block. My aim sucks too.
Thanks for the response. I was thinking that would be a good thing to do....put the grommet and washer on the tube before reinstall. Funny thing - I thought I had posted in troubleshooting and was surprised when it showed up in IDI enhancements. I haven't posted in a while so I probably messed up.
