does anyone have a source for a block heater for a 1.9t IDI. mine no longer works so i called a VW dealer for a replacement and the guy told me they stoped selling block heaters and replaced them with oil pan heaters but the oil heaters caused fire problems so now they don't make oil heaters or block heaters

help me it is COLD outside
go to a junk yard. That's your best option I believe! I've always seemed to find what I needed when going there. From a 400 dollar hydraulic hose for power steering on an audi 5k, to a door handle lol.
Getting the block heater out of the car is another story, you'll need to find a car thats accessible (which is hard to find in some junkyards)
yes i have been to many junk yards but the block heaters are HARD to get to cause it is next to the firewall

if it comes to it i will pull it but if there is another easier source that would be better
you can buy new block heaters for cheap at larger parts stores. Around here, Canadian tire, in the states, probably pep boys etc. They're fairly straightforward to install. Removing the old one is the hardest part. If you can't find one locally, i can send you one from here.
i was told by the VW dealer to goto NAPA and buy a block heater from them, but all they have are inline heaters and that side of my engine is cramped. if i decide to not get one from the junk yard then i will let you know.
ya use junkyard as last resort. you'd be there a while just trying to take the block heater out. I remember seeing a block heater at Princess Auto... Not sure about the specs though, just saw it in their flyer.
www.princessauto.com then I think you need to signup for a free membership...
Most block heaters are sold by the core plug hole size that they fit. I've never seen one that was specific to a certain model of car/engine. Try shopping somewhere other than NAPA.
The zerostart/phillips/temro heater part number for your car is 3100034. If you can't find one of these the core plug hole is 36.5mm in diameter. There are likely other manufacturers that make a similarly sized heater.
