Hi guys. A co-worker and I have been considering buying the powder coating system. I know there is quite the demand for it with the chopper scene, which is his specialty. Now I'm wondering what the demand would be like from us VW owners.
The cost would be approximately $25-$30 per small rusty part. Price would include sand blasting, and a special prep, then powder coat. Maybe the price would vary by weight of the part needing powder coating, but I'm not sure yet.
I mainly want to get a feel for how many people want/need powder coatings done. Good candidates for powder coatings would be valve cover, oil pan, miscelaneous brackets, hard injector lines, etc.
If this isn't the right area to be posting something like this, then sorry!

oh and I'm not too sure if this could be available to you guys in the U.S. as shipping costs, etc would be pretty pricey.

pretty cool so far! there's also high temp (1000F) powder coating available too... I really like the fact that the coat can be built up (thicker coating without running! very nice!)
I would really like to use the high temp for the oil feed line for the turbo. I bought a parts car off a guy that had that line go on him. I haven't really checked the turbo, but I'm near positive that its junk! That right there is a great investment!!!
IP brackets, pulley's... i might even experiment coating my rusty a/c lines. All I will need to do is shield the hose from the high temp. Maybe even brake lines???
Recently checked under my car for I can't remember what, but I found my recently installed struts are already starting to show rust and the paint is peeling :evil: they will be good candidates for sand blasting and powder coating (shielding the main piston of course!!!)
I've heard of some guys powder coating their entire vehicle!!!
Even being in the US I could probably find some small pieces to have sent up to ya. I'd rather support another VW Dieseler (Or biodieseler for other parts) than someone who is purely into this for the money.
Of course, larger pieces I'd have to do locally because of shipping.

ya i won't gouge for shipping or anything like that. remember that the primary goal for this is to recoup some cash for buying the equipment/supplies.
who knows.. maybe it will turn into a profitable business in the chopper sector
well so I guess I have a definitive answer on coating aluminum! it can be done! I guess it would mainly be for show purposes, as aluminum doesn't rust anyways. coat those pumps!
i just know i'm going to go coat crazy if we end up starting this!
i will probably use their pricing guide, find out my cost, and charge the difference. I'm also going to check out the locals and see how much they are charging.

i had my rims, alum 13's, coated a silver by the shop at the local prison. they even put on a base coat. i was not impressed! it chips off real easy. i always heard it was supp to be durable but this isn't. i blame it on the inmates for not taking pride and the temps were not set right. hope i didn't offend any ex-inmates here. any way, i am not impressed.
I had a lot of bracketry coated for my truck, and it was time and money well spent. Not only does it look better, but it makes parts much easier to clean.
