while doing a gearbox oil change today, unscrewed the drainplug in my gearbox in my caravelle/vanagon, and then proceeded to drop the oil only to find my gearbox had given birth to 2 shiny metal clips and 2 ball bearings. aaaaaaah! Noooooooooo!
 i logged into
http://www.longenterprises.com/parts_list/partslist_2700.html and it seems that i dont have any ball sleeves in my box anymore and havn't yet worked out where the other parts GO!

step 2.
there has to be a reason that the parts fell out. they were probably already hanging there... no manufacturer would setup a tranny to eject parts while performing regular maintenance  so i'd say it was a godsend that you decided to change your tranny oil when you did... probably prevented a major catastrophe! but now you must locate the new bearings and install them...
The metal guides always fall out, never seen any bearings though, probably part of the detent.
Is your gearchange not the most positive?
The two balls fit inside the clips, one on each side of the shift rail.
Like Andrew said, I would pull the tranny, fix the guides, install an updated 3-4 synchro hub and check all bearings.
Don't wait till it gets noisy, it will cost you way more!
