i did a search but found everything but how to actually do it. 93 passat engine go down thru or up top? how long should it take and do i need any special tools besides the 8mm for the axles? im pulling motor and trans. i toasted the motor in my dd!!
you should probably pull the engine out of the top. IF you were to try to lower it out the bottom you'd have to remove the subframe which would likely be more trouble than it's worth. You shouldn't need any other special tools.
awesome! thanks for the quick reply!! any idea on how long it should take? i don't think it would be long??
It depends how fast you work and whether or not you have A/C and power steering. I'd guess an hour and a half if you're working quickly but not doing a junk yard pull (cutting everything).
so anyone know if i can just remove the engine??? i think i would rather just do that??
anyone? i can't tell if its gonna go, the balancer and w/p are hitting the body... if i take those off will it come alone? or does the trans have to come out too?
You don't have to take the tranny out too, you could separate them and then support the tranny and leave it in there. I've never done it that way though.
If you take all of the accesories off the block, including the oil filter mount you should be able to drop it out the bottom. I've only done mk1 and mk2 rabbit/jettas so I don't know the specific configuration of the passat bay
