i have an 84 quantum. the other day i stopped at a red light and noticed that there was smoke pouring out of the crack between my hood and fender. I got through the intersection pulled over and poped the hood. There was oil just about everywhere, the block, my new hoses, the turbo, but pretty much all on the exhaust side of the engine. So, i limped home, and goat the new valve cover gasket set(gasket and the two new seals). I put that on according to manual spec(7ft. lbs., no additional sealer). There was much less smoke, but when I opened the hood, it was still there. I put on the gasket again thinking I may have screwed it up. Same result. There is oil pooling in the little concave parts of the intake right below the edage of the valve cover. And there is evidence that it has gotten onto the exhaust and the turbo as well. Any tips on how to solve the problem, different installation procedure? Anything?

Did you clean all the oil and crap off the head and vavle cover sealing surfaces? are there and cracks in the vavle cover or head?
Toss the cork gasket. See if you can find the rubber gasket retrofit kit. They show up on Ebay once and a while. Really does a better job of sealing the valve cover, and its reusable. If you have the studs with the shoulder to locate the cork gasket, you have to change to the streight studs to run the rubber gasket.
"The Right Stuff" sold at NAPA and probably other stores, is an awesome
sealant. Some people don't like it though because of the "more is better"
mentality of most users, causing it to squeeze out all over inside the engine.
I left all gaskets out of my tranny and used it instead, and it has never
leaked again.
Here is a perfectly good reason to go easy on sealant

Warped heads and blown headgaskets are awesome
