I tightened the head bolts in the proper sequence to the recommended torque using this procedure:
30 ft-lb
44 ft-lb
additional 1/2 turn
It says now to warm up the motor, then do an additional 1/4 turn in sequence. Is this really necessary? Has anyone here not done it? What happened?
it is very necessary and will probably loose a head gasket in the near future

I only started it once and haven't driven it. I'll do the 1/4 turn before I drive it. Thank you.
warm it up to exactly what the bentley says to and go form there. The re-torquing 1000 kms later is the contraversial one
yea those bolts are so stretched by then....
a metal head gasket is the reason for part of the controversy i guess
i havent checked mine yet
but im runnin head studs and its a tdi-m
i did check em after a few days and i got like no movement, but maybe it wouldnt hurt for me to check mine,,,,,,,,,,,
