 I'm sure that most people would like to have a QuantumTD 5 cylinder Sync ; but those Audi 5000 engines are elusive.
What's to stop someone putting in a diesel crank and head etc on/in a gasser 5 cylinder block?
Hi, you could put a set of 1.7 diesel pistons in there and use the gasser crank, but the problem with the gasser block is that there are no mounting bosses on the block for the injection pump bracket and the block deck has not enough support for the cyl. head where the pre-chambers are located.( the cooling passages into the head are larger than on the diesel block)
I think that there are a few 2.0 diesel engines around but most of them are N/A and not the turbo version. A good cyl. head and manifolds are really hard to find.
Next time I am in Europe, I'll have a look for a complete 2.4 diesel head and put that on a 2.0. You can still buy brand new heads there for the 2.4. It will be like a 1.6 TD with a 1.9 TD head, the headgasket looks close to the 2.0 and should fit.

there must be a way to make the gasser block work. those engines are bullet proof... I used to drive one for two years and it constantly saw 6k rpm and took a beating... ended up getting rid of it because of clutch slave cylinder issues...
i think i wanna try and run a low 14 with my car, with a 1.6 head and with out a giles pump (not cause i don't like giles or anything, but just cause i don't wanna spend that money haha) so i've got what like a little over 2 seconds to shave....
but you know just a dream

Last year I sent a European 'retro' cable clutch conversion kit over to the states!

oh well. I loved the hydraulic clutch... soooooo smooth! Shame that all it probably needed was a flush n fill

that car was a dream to drive... made switching to a vw an eye opener with regards to clutches. Easiest car to learn on. Easiest car to spin tires... Oh and did I mention one of the easiest cars to tune and get quite a bit of hp gain? Direct injection I might add... something that mazda is now using on their commercials... lol...!!!!!!!!
I miss the car... but not the $$$ spent on gas
ew i don't like hydraulic clutches, the smothness is nice, but the feel of a cable clutch is so nice to me, my foot lets me know what's going on and not the movement of the car

I'd much rather hydraulic clutch over cable. City driving with cable clutch is too intense. The feedback you get from the motor really starts to mess with you after a while. I could drive hydraulic clutch all day! Especially in the torquy 5 cyl motor (very hard to stall the motor... only way is to dump the clutch fast)
btw. when the slave cyl died.. only way to drive it home was to start it in gear, and then shift @ 4k rpm... not good for the tranny.. but had to be done. start in 1st, and slowly make it home in 2nd...
