the mk3 drum swap is easy, just like putting stock brakes back on, i would go for it if you have the parts.
ive had cheap parts store slave cylinders lock up on me before. you really gotta get the german ones. theyre not expensive either way
I kept all the parts stuck together, backing plates and all.
I'll start putting some paint on them.
Damn more work than I thought.
Wish I would have looked for the bad right front wheel bearing,
bad right rack boot, bad left tie rod while I was in there.
There is an interstate south of town that has those lines going down the road.
If there is anything wrong with my alignment it will throw me left and right.
Went to see a friend's band and took that road.
It was a weird ride but I made it there.
Took a different road back.
Didn't make it to the car show because of the front end problems.
Oh well next year.
Got everything replaced with parts from the hoard.
Had a pair of front hubs with the bearings already pressed in. Was tempted to replace both but I hate to replace something that is still good.
That was so handy to have them just hanging from a pole ready to swap in.
I'll have to press the old bearing out, and in with a new one for the hoard.
Kinda lucked out on the rack boot, found a used one that was kinda heavy duty.
Gonna have to get some right boots for the hoard had 2 lefties.
.
Had a couple NOS tie rods.
To do the alignment I put a 6x6 up against the front tires then used a square against that and the tire.
It feels pretty good but I'm going to take another trip down highway 18 and see if it throws me around.
I'll bring wrenches so I can adjust it until the ride feels right.
Ahh, the typical saga of the VW mechanic. You think it will be an easy fix, and days later, you are still wondering how much more can be wrong here. I don't like that feeling. You seem to have an extensive hoard.
I thought I was bad, but you must have me beat five times over. Keep it running, that's the goal.
Enjoy.
Yep, keep it running straight down the road without wearing tires funny is this stage of the project.
With all the parts I have I could probably build a nice Rabbit from a bare shell.
Minus the right rack boot,... Oh wait I have a whole spare rack or 2.
When looking through the tie rod department, found I have 3 of the stock driver's side tie rods.
The ones that aren't adjustable. I forgot VW only made one side adjustable from the factory.
Would kind of like to build one more pickup with the good parts.
