I was recently looking at my renewal from my insurance co. and got to thinking. What if I wreck my 1981 Pickup? Will my company be likely to give me what these seem to be selling for at the moment? So, I called my agent and he said being that old he would give me book value and it was a fraction of what I have in mind for what it is worth. So I asked him to remove that from my policy as I was going to be working on it for a while anyway.
Then I went to one of those companies that specialize in collector cars and will give you the value you decide to insure it for. I talked to a fellow, Steve at American Collectors, and within the first two minutes, I learned he himself owned a 1977 Rabbit back in the day and understood the differences between the diesel and the gas models and he was still kicking himself for letting it go. So it is.
If you are considering insurance I would recommend this guy. I post his info as a courtesy to you and him.
