Hi Im new, I have a 89 Caddy 1.6 na diesel but I want more power, ive just picked up an 89 passat cl with a 1.6 td motor in and want to know how easily the new motor will fit, from what I gather looking around the site I need to make a manifold but not really much else, am I correct or just blind?

you shouldnt have to make a manifold it should bolt in with all of the caddy brackets put on to the passat engine.

So other than that it should be just a case of taking out the old and bolting in the new? Its my daily you see and I can't really afford to have it off the road for long, Basically I should be able to remove the old Na unit and the TD will slot straight in wireing and cooling, driveshafts, engine mounts, nothing as far as anyone knows.

How is the engine mounted in the passat? If it is mounted longitudinally, you will need an exhaust manifold.
'89 Caddy? Is that based on the MKII platform?

That is the Passat that looks like a Skoda front...and not one of the very very very last B2 Passats(Quantums) to be registered because those have the turbo placed differently...

Now thats a good question, its the first one that came out without an actual grille, I dunno how else to describe it, its ugly if thats any good, if its the wrong one, am I looking at problems?

If it's this one

Nah you're OK
Did I say Skoda? Or did I mean DAF
It's just a variation on the Golf setup so it's an easy swap...
I never said ugly...
I wonder if someone stuck a grill on the front it would improve it?

Mars pink! Yeah thats the one, I only paid £45 for it and its got a brand new battery and Bosch Alternator, but it desperatly needs new glow plugs, so, I got the easy to fit one? Does anyone know what power the engine in this produces, its sounds loads better than the one Im running.

They must be painted with red book ink.
 Unfortunately the swap with my Quantae is more difficult unless I care to drop it into an Audi TT
